Encinitas 101 MainStreet Association announced its 21st annual presentation of Encinitas Cruise Nights starting Thursday, May 16 from 5:30 to 7:30 PM and every 3rd Thursday of the month this summer for owners of classic cars (vehicles that are more than 25 years old) to display their vehicles in downtown Encinitas. Of course, the public is welcome to this free event to admire, appreciate; and ogle eye – but don’t touch – these hot rods; foreign automobiles, woodies, and classic cars of all shapes and sizes that will be lining 1st Street in Encinitas from D Street to K Street. These classics will bring fond memories of a time when America had car classics instead of car clones.

Each month has a theme and May’s theme is American Muscle, featuring classic American muscle cars. Don’t worry if you don’t like muscle cars; all classic and vintage vehicles are welcome to be displayed and viewed each month as well!.

The May event will also include The North County Cruisers; an all bikes motorcycle club. Come to admire hundreds of these polished classics, but don’t forget to also enjoy the bands that will be playing blues and dance music from the ’50s, ’60s, and ’70s. It’s almost as if you are walking down Main Street in American Graffiti.

The MainStreet Association wants you to enjoy the eye candy, but when you are ready for actual food; many of the local eateries will be having dinner and drink specials for the anyone who attends the Cruise Night.

Irene Pyun, E101 Executive Director, says, “We’re thrilled to continue a long time beloved event in the downtown community and expect a great number of attendees. Member businesses have come through in sponsoring the event to make sure it remains successful as well as O’Reilly’s Auto Parts and the Lumberyard Shoppes.” Pyun continues saying, “This event is one of my favorites because it brings all ages out to enjoy live music and most of all a trip down memory lane!

The public is encouraged to arrive early, even before the start time of 5:30 to allow enough time to inspect all the vehicles on display as well as to stop and ask questions of the owners of your favorites. Most of the owners will be standing by their vehicle ready; willing; and able to discuss the features of the car.

First Street will be closed to public (non-display) vehicles; so arrive early for the best parking— Second; Third; and Fourth Streets; plus Moonlight parking lot are your best bets.

If you arrive late; not only will you have to park many blocks from this event but you won’t have the time to thoroughly enjoy each and every car on display.

In fact; you’ll probably develop an urge to re-watch American Graffiti and come back the 3rd Thursday in June to see the type of cars used in that movie up close.
